The 32" and 42" IP-65 rated outdoor displays use the epaper technology from E Ink. They provide the unique benefits of a high resolution digital sign display that is both sunlight readable and ultra-low power.
Popular applications are transport signage, replacement of paper public signs, messageboards, noticeboards, signboards.
The epaper display used in these monitors is reflective, it just uses the light in the environment, like paper. As the images above and below that are photos taken with the display in sunlight show, this is very sunlight readable. There is a built-in edgelight for the screen to ensure visibility in low light situations.
This is the other aspect where epaper based displays really excel. The display itself consumes zero power to hold an image so it is only the other electronics that consumes power. With suitable system it is easy top have a display system that operates completely independently with solar and/or wind power together with a rechargeable battery.
Thanks to this very low power requirement there are a number of power options:
- AC to DC power (if available)
- Solar &/or wind power with a rechargeable battery
- POE (Power over Ethernet)

The 32" and 42" outdoor monitors are made of solid aluminum sealed to IP65 standard, with a toughened anti-glare cover glass. They are designed with flat surfaces so it is easy to add a cosmetic enclosure.
The 32" and 42" outdoor monitors' uniquely low power requirements open up the opportunities for various power alternatives, for example AC mains power, POE (Power over Ethernet), solar and/or wind with a battery. The panel itself draws no power when in an idle state, however the image will remain on the display. The main power consumption is likely to come from the other devices such as the media player, and if used only a few times a day this could be powered off during the idle periods and just "woken up" when needed.
For developers wanting to see and test an E Ink display we made a 13.3" display, using an E Ink panel, Digital View EPM-050 driver board and Raspberry Pi Zero (or 3B+ or 4B). The enclosure is powder coated aluminum. Inputs are micro USB for power and USB type A for a USB memory stick for content. Wi-Fi connection is also available upon request.
