The epaper display used in these monitors is reflective, it just uses the light in the environment, like paper. As the images above and below that are photos taken with the display in sunlight show, this is very sunlight readable. There is a built-in edgelight for the screen to ensure visibility in low light situations.
E Ink's epaper technology is bistable, that means it holds its image until it is changed. So if the power fails, there is no concern that the display will be blank, it will retain the image.
Thanks to the low power requirement there are a number of power options:

- Solar &/or wind power with a rechargeable battery
- POE (Power over Ethernet)

Digital View developed the EP software below to update the image on the E Ink based displays produced by Digital View. It is ideal for single displays and made available as a free download. To update a larger network of displays, such as for digital signage or transport signage applications, ask us about suitable software solutions. For 13.3", 28", 32", 42" displays Epaper Demo App for Windows 8 or later (ZIP) EP Demo App Guide (PDF) Functions of this Windows app: - Establish a connection to the display from a Windows PC over network, or a USB drive. - Load or create images for update. - Arrange images in a playlist and set the interval. Note: This software is designed to work with a matching application on the Digital View STM-100 or Raspberry Pi installed in the display.
